Megan Fowler
Clinical Social Work / Therapist, LCSW
I see adults for individual and couples counseling, specializing in prenatal and postpartum mental health, parenting stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic illness.
Background & Education
I received my Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and my Masters in Social Work from New York University. Prior to private practice, I worked for many years as a hospital social worker, providing trauma informed services to children and families coping with a range of medical and mental illnesses.
I have experience working with those suffering from severe and profound mental illness and have supported clients in navigating traumatic circumstances and hardships including end of life, grief/loss, infertility and miscarriage, homelessness, violence, and racial and sexual discrimination. I am trained in the assessment and treatment of pre and postnatal mood disorders, as well as other DSM 5 diagnoses.

Therapeutic Approach
My therapeutic approach involves using a pluralistic, tailored process that helps clients explore the influence of one’s early childhood on the ways that we see ourselves as parents, professionals, and partners. Whether you’re navigating the complexities of life transitions or managing the challenges of chronic illness, I provide support that acknowledges these experiences.
A working mom of two, I honor and hold space for the “mental load” of parenting and am committed to eliminating the stigma of postpartum mood disorders, as well as those related to anxiety and depression, perinatal mental health, and parenting stress.
In my work with clients, I use a strengths-based and emotionally focused approach that illuminates your resilience and helps you gently tap into emotions and behaviors that may be holding you back from living your most authentic and fulfilling life. I am committed to fostering a warm, non-judgmental environment that welcomes all races, sexualities, religions, and gender identities. As a researcher, I believe in utilizing evidence-based practices that are ethical and appropriate for your individual needs.
These are a few of the methods I integrate into my practice
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): I use this structured, goal-oriented approach to help clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors, fostering healthier coping mechanisms and emotional regulation.
- Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT): In couples and family counseling, I focus on transforming negative interaction patterns and fostering secure emotional connections by addressing underlying emotional needs and attachment patterns.
- Attachment Theory Techniques: I explore and heal early attachment-related issues, helping clients develop healthier relational and emotional patterns that positively impact their current relationships.
Personal
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling with my family, exploring new cultures and cuisines, and making amateur floral arrangements from Trader Joe’s.
