Therapy Costs and Insurance

Meg Bearman Counseling is an out-of-network practice and does not accept insurance directly. Individual and couples fees differ by clinician category and session length. We can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement. The free introductory consultation is 20 minutes by phone or video; the intake and therapy appointments are paid services.

What does out of network mean here?

Plan to pay the practice’s agreed fee. If your insurance plan has applicable out-of-network benefits, it may reimburse part of an eligible expense after you submit the required information. Coverage depends on the plan, clinician, service, deductible, and other terms. Having insurance does not by itself establish that a session here will be reimbursed.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized document used to support a request for insurance reimbursement. It can contain provider, appointment, service, and diagnosis information required for a claim. Ask the practice what it can provide for your clinician and service, and ask your insurer what documentation it requires before assuming the expense qualifies.

Submitting a superbill is not a guarantee of reimbursement. If you have concerns about which information is included or shared with an insurer, discuss them with the practice before requesting or submitting the document.

What should I ask my insurance company?

  • Does my plan include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
  • Is this specific clinician and service eligible, including a pre-licensed clinician if applicable?
  • Are online sessions covered under the same terms?
  • How are couples sessions handled under my plan?
  • What deductible applies, and how much remains?
  • What allowed amount and reimbursement percentage apply to an eligible session?
  • Do I need authorization, a referral, a diagnosis, or particular billing documentation?
  • How do I submit a claim, and what is the filing deadline?

A deductible is an amount you may need to pay for covered care before plan payments begin; coinsurance is a share of covered costs. For general definitions, see HealthCare.gov’s explanation of health care costs. Use your own plan documents and insurer’s response to understand your actual benefits.

Is a sliding scale available?

The practice offers a limited number of sliding-scale therapy spots. Ask about current availability when you contact us. Do not assume a reduced rate is available for a particular clinician or appointment; confirm any arrangement before starting.

Can I use an HSA or FSA?

The practice accepts HSA/FSA funds as well as major credit cards, cash, or check. Check your account’s eligibility and documentation requirements with its administrator. A payment method being accepted does not establish insurance coverage or the tax treatment of a particular expense.

How are trauma intensives priced?

Meg’s trauma intensives span 1–3 days and are planned individually. Request a quote that explains the schedule, session time, what is included, and payment arrangements. The ordinary session ranges above should not be used to calculate an intensive price. See our comparison of ongoing therapy and intensives.

What else should I confirm before booking?

Ask about the payment schedule, cancellation or rescheduling policy, the intake fee, and any charges outside the agreed session. A workable plan accounts for both the appointment fee and how often you expect to attend. Bring budget concerns to the consultation so they can be discussed alongside clinical fit.
